This is an excellent list so far, and I shall definitely be pursuing some of the ones I haven’t seen. I’ve only seen 30 of the 75 you’ve so far posted, so plenty still to do, but the ones I have seen all deserve their places, I think (well, I’m no huge fan of The Master, but I can’t deny its artistry; I just can’t seem to get onboard with PT Anderson no matter how many of his films I see).

Thanks, Ewan. PTA is definitely not for all tastes and I don’t like all of his movies (MAGNOLIA leaves me cold). But THE MASTER will not be his only appearance on this list.

Well, I finally caught up with Inherent Vice and you may be onto something (I really loved it), so perhaps I shall have to try again with The Master… Anyway, it’s a great list and I look forward to watching the 55 or so others that I’ve not seen!

January 19th, 2015 at 4:48 pm
That puts you at 51 total. I wonder if anyone can catch you!

15 for me. Nice to see BELLA ADDORMENTATA listed; it was almost startling to see a film where such a divisive issue creates a context for drama without the film becoming in any way a political tract.

Well-said about the Bellocchio. I think he’s Italy’s greatest living filmmaker. As you indicate, he really knows how to take a subject and dramatize it in a completely naturalistic way. DORMANT BEAUTY is so underrated — and a thousand times better than Haneke’s similarly-themed AMOUR.
January 19th, 2015 at 5:13 pm
Strongly agreed! I hadn’t even thought of the two together before, that’s how far apart they are. I just recently watched Bellocchio’s PRINCE OF HOMBURG, which I found impressively ambiguous.
January 19th, 2015 at 11:31 pm
BTW, you’re at 46 total, Dan.
January 19th, 2015 at 6:40 pm
