  I have seen numbers 3,5,6,7 and 9 and I gave all of them * * * * stars (out of * * * *). I love them all. I have not seen numbers 1,2,4,8 and 9. I have revised entries on two of my 100 favorite filmmakers of all-time. The first is a revised list of “My Favorite Robert Bresson Films” Here is the link below:

    Oh, man, you haven’t seen DAVID HOLZMAN’S DIARY yet? It’s one of the great American films of the 60s and one of the best movies ever made about filmmaking. Will check out your Bresson and Boetticher lists posthaste!

  I told one of my friends that I have not seen David Holzman’s Diary and he told me in response “you have to see it” I told him I have to figure out where I can find a copy and lo and behold he had a copy of the film and lended it to me. I watched it right away after I read your reply at 5:30 p.m. I watched the film at 7:30 and an hour and a half later I came to the conclusion that it is a great film (I give it * * * * out of * * * * stars). Thank you so much for the recommendation:)

    My favorite of all of these is probably GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, which I think represents everything that is great (and nothing that is not great) about Hollywood filmmaking. That was one of four titles on the list that I screened in a class (along with NORTH BY NORTHWEST, DAVID HOLZMAN’S DIARY and the ’92 version of BLADE RUNNER). The rest I watched on my own leisure time.

    MR. ARKADIN is a blast — a Euro B-movie version of the classic films noir Welles made in Hollywood (like LADY FROM SHANGHAI and TOUCH OF EVIL). It’s minor Welles for sure but minor Welles is better than major anyone else!

      Totally agree with that minor Welles line. Often feel the same when I am defending my love of The Stranger.
