  It’s so unfair that Thelma Ritter never won an Oscar. She’s brilliant in South Street

    Yep, six noms in 12 years (all for Best Supporting Actress) and she never won. She definitely should have won for SOUTH STREET. Her final scene in that film is a real “time capsule” piece of screen acting. I had to look up to see who beat her for that year and it was Donna Reed for FROM HERE TO ETERNITY. Well, you know what they say: a rising tide lifts all boats . . .

  I agree with you totally on Pickup on South Street. Thelma Ritter definitely should have won best supporting actress. In fact, Samuel Fuller is one of my top 101 favorite filmmakers of all-time. I have seen numbers 1,2,3,5,6,7,8 and 9. It has been a long time since I have seen number 1 however. Nevertheless, I love the films listed on numbers 2,3,5,6,7,8 and 9.

  I just left a comment under your post regarding your interview with Samuel Fuller’s widow Christa Lang Fuller. Fantastic stuff. I can definitely see why it is your favorite post of all. Samuel Fuller was besides a great director, just an all in all really fascinating guy and his wife proves to be every bit his equal:)
