    Hi Michael,

I am in the process of revamping my blog and converting from blogspot to wordpress. I would like to steal your idea of tracking the last 10 movies watched as I think it might provoke some good dialogue.

Would you mind if I added this?

Man, I haven’t seen The African Queen in a very long time. Gotta revisit The Big Sleep as well. Been way too long. Good 10 list, Micheal. Thanks, man!

    Center Stage,more comments?

    Diabolique or Psycho?

    Your fave Sturges?

If I had to list the virtues of Center Stage it would be endless. The greatest thing about that film is the way it cuts between actual clips of Ruan Ling-Yu films, the biopic scenes and then the documentary scenes where Stanley Kwan, Maggie Cheung and others talk about Ruan. The emotional high point is the climactic scene where Kwan cuts back and forth between Ruan at a party talking to her directors and those same directors paying tribute to her at her funeral.

Diabolique is good but Psycho is way better.

My favorite Sturges is either The Lady Eve or Miracle of Morgan’s Creek. Sturges, incidentally, is one of the few “great American directors” who is (and always has been) MORE appreciated in this country than abroad.
