Your forgot to mention that you sat in the room during Paranormal Activity 2!.

Hey Mike have you seen this?

What did you think of Resident Evil 2, given it was from a different director?

Some of the last stuff I watched was Avengers, Kids, and Rabies, at long last.

Anything else in particular you’re anticipating this summer?

I liked the second Resident Evil movie because I like Milla Jovovich as an action heroine and I really enjoyed the “beauty and the beast” final showdown. Having said that, it definitely wasn’t as well directed as the first one. Paul W.S. Anderson knows how to stage action set pieces – his use of camera movement, framing and depth of field is awe-inspiring. Whoever directed the second one resorted to a bunch of cheesy stock action movie effects – such as an overuse of slow-motion. Nonetheless, I look forward to the next films in the series, especially Afterlife and the forthcoming Retribution, which were both directed by Anderson.

What did you think of Rabies? I thought it was a far more refreshingly original spin on the cabin in the woods horror film than The Cabin in the Woods.

My most anticipated films for the remainder of the year, roughly in order of excitement, are: The Grandmasters (Wong), Zero Dark Thirty (Bigelow), Like Someone in Love (Kiarostami), Stoker (Park), Cosmopolis (Cronenberg), Killing Them Softly (Dominik – though I HATE the title change), Resident Evil: Retribution (Anderson), The Master (by the OTHER Paul Anderson), Django Unchained (Tarantino), Mekong Hotel (Weerasethakul), You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet (Resnais).

I found that around 1 in the morning from an article on fangoria of all places. I’d love to get an autographed script by Schrader, especially something unpublished like Blue Collar or Raging Bull. Hell of a way to finance independent films.

I thought Resident Evil 2 &3 were kind of week compared to 1& 4 (which is one of few films I enjoyed in 3D).

I loved Rabies. It’s defintely one of the best foreign horror films I’ve ever seen. I think it’s great the way it toyed with the genre, resulting in perhaps the first ever slasher film where the killer doesn’t even kill anyone. You really can’t get better than that.

I haven’t really been able to compile an exact list of stuff I still want to see, but just a few include Moonrise Kingdom, Prometheus, Cosmopolis (definitely), The Expendables 2, Lawless, Gangster Squad, Looper, Argo, and 007: Skyfall.

How’s Bernie? I did not know Linklater made this.
