I suppose half of them were watched in your classes?

    • michaelgloversmith

Pickpocket, Bicycle Thieves, Liberty Valance and Rear Window were all screened in class. The Phantom Father and The Birds were seen in the theater. Everything else was DVD or blu-ray except for The Unscrupulous Ones, which was downloaded illegally!

No wonder I have never heard of it!!
How do you arrange the content of your class? I mean,in what order you are showing these films?

      • michaelgloversmith

Chronological order, mostly. We start in the silent era and work our way up to the present day. I think you should think about teaching cinema too!

It would be a great job but you have to be old enough to teach cinema in China, besides,I think your major should be related to cinema or teaching. So I think I can only influence people in other ways.

Liberty Valence is the toughest man south of the picketwire, next to me.

I’ve seen Pickpocket and Mouchette and in the mail is Au Hasurd Balthazar. I’m quiiite excited.

I have a feeling you will really love Balthazar. For a long time it was my favorite movie.

I’m now on page 103 of CTRL-F to Find It.

It’s actually probably a good thing I can’t download any Bresson movies anywhere. I actually watched Mouchette twice through; the second time I caught the way (I think it was) the coffin, or rectangular image, kind of shimmers in and out of the water; it’s also interesting the way the water itself (I don’t know if this was intentional) kind of ripples out, then reverses, then ripples out again.

Definitely. If you haven’t seen Edmond, that’s an interesting watch if you like David Mamet’s stuff. I loved He Got Game. Any of the stuff on this list, if you haven’t seen should be worth checking out.
