Hi Michael,
I saw JSA a few years back when I was exploring Korean films. We had a now-defunct channel on our cable called AZN TV. They often featured Korean films – which were usually great and Korean soap operas – which were ridiculous but fun. One of the films we saw on AZN was ‘Three Iron’ which I believe is called something like ‘Empty Houses’ in Korean. Very interesting. I also recommend the film ‘The Brotherhood of War’ (Tae Guk Ki in Korean) – excellent.
Also, I have moved my blog over to WordPress and would be honored if you would follow it: thediscreetbourgeois.wordpress.com. My first new post there is a ‘The Last 10 Films I’ve Seen’ which I totally confess to stealing from you as well as giving a recommendation that everyone check out White City Cinema.

It’s funny you should mention 3-Iron. I just showed JSA in a class focusing on S. Korean cinema and I’ll be showing 3-Iron soon in the very same class.
Thanks for the shout out on your new blog. I’m now following it.

They will be up by the end of next week. But I’ll be posting my interview with Jan Troell first.

Michael, I’ve been looking for a DVD to rent of “Deep Cover” for some time now…how did you manage to see it?
October 24th, 2012 at 12:07 pm
Scott, I rented Deep Cover from netflix in order to show it in a “World of Cinema” class at Harold Washington College (the subject was neo-noir) but you can buy used copies on amazon for less than $2. It’s a great movie and worth a blind buy.
