It’s about a gang of thieves who call themselves “The Vampires.” It just came out on Blu-ray from Kino Video and I’ll be reviewing it on this blog very soon.

Joaquin Phoenix has an excellent chance of winning the Best Actor Oscar for The Master. His performance is phenomenal. It’s at the level of DeNiro in Raging Bull. The film could also win the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. But it’s probably too dark and challenging to win Best Picture.

I’ve seen two Ghatak films – The Cloud-Capped Star and A River Called Titas – both of which I loved. His films are a bit like Satyajit Ray’s. They’re Bengali art films, heavily influenced by Italian Neorealism. I like these kind of movies. I don’t understand Bollywood at all.

He wrote the script when he was going through a nasty divorce/child custody battle with his first wife, all of which is explicitly allegorized in the film.

I’m seeing Cosmopolis on Friday and I’m super psyched.
